Helmut does it again...
Marille wins Gold in Austria!

Helmut Wilderer, world- renowned Distiller of Grappa and Eaux de Vie and Winner of numerous International Medals, has again impressed the judges by winning a remarkable Gold Medal at the Destillata in Austria.
Destillata is one of the World’s toughest Competitions when it comes to Grappa and Eaux de Vie.
This year 182 distilleries from 15 countries submitted 1602 fine spirits.
36 judges, from 5 countries, awarded only 2 Gold Medals to non- European contestants in the entire Competition. One of them went to South Africa, to Wilderer Distillery!

Helmut’s Marillen (Apricot) Barrique Eaux de Vie scored 18 out of 20 points and was awarded with one of only two Gold Medals in this category.
It must be added that, “Marille” is Austria’s Pride and Nr.1 Product.
All eyes were therefore on Helmut Wilderer, when he came out tops in a country that has over 60 000 producers!
Says Wilderer: “Once again South Africa has been put on Top of the International Map as we await the World during the Soccer World Cup this Year”.

Our New Menu includes old Favourites like Flammkuchen and Veal but you have to come try new additions like “Linsensuppe mit Spaetzle & Wienerle”, Steak Tartare or the Parmesan Feast- where fresh Pasta is served out of a hollowed- out Parmesan Wheel and flambéed with Grappa!

Our fireplace will keep you warm and adds to the cosy atmosphere.

One & Only Hotel @ Wilderer

On 25 November 2009 we had the pleasure of welcoming the top performing food & beverage staff of the Cape Town One & Only hotel. A fun-filled afternoon with a training session and lunch.

every first sunday of the month.

What's up @ Wilderer's?
...... or rather what's distilling and cooking?
Well, ... quite a lot!



After four years in “exile”and working for leading catering supplier- CORE, Christian is back in the family business and has taken over sales, marketing, distribution and the restaurant. “It’s good to be home and I am eager to apply my great experience gained to further build our business!”



That’s the new name for our restaurant at the distillery.
Operated by Christian and his lovely fiancé, Kristien, a fusion of talent is bound to make them successful. Christian has a passion for food and Kristien is a qualified sommelier and had her own highly successful restaurant in Belgium for eight years.

The team is completed by International Chef Nande- Mari Versnel and Salma in the kitchen, while Tersia takes care of the front- of- house service.

Uncomplicated, simple, straightforward, fresh food.

Mainly traditional Italian dishes, fresh pastas and thin crisp pizzas, but of course some Wilderer classics such as Flammkuchen, Spaetzle and Sexy Snails!

As a successful Restaurateur, Helmut started distilling "Haus-Schnaps" for his restaurant, "Katzenberger's Adler", one of the top rated restaurants in Germany. He subsequently began studying the "Art of Distillation" in Austria, as well as at the University of Hohenheim near Stuttgart under the auspices of Prof. Pieper. 

When the monopolies in South Africa fell in 1994, Helmut took the chance to get the very first licence in the country to produce Grappa & Schnaps. 

In January 2000, Wilderer's Distillery moved from Stellenbosch to Paarl. Visiting the new Distillery on the Wine-Route (R45) to Franshhoek (just 3 km outside Paarl) is a must for Schnaps lovers.
